Old Memories

Just come back from supper at McDonalds with mum. Over there, i saw lots of youngsters about the same age as me or maybe younger hanging out there to watch football match or having group studies.

The scenario make me miss the old days i had when i was in UK university life. During those days, me and friends also like this youngsters hang out for group studies. Instead at McDonalds, we were at the library or at Pandon building with laptops on, ipods/mp3 and books as company for the whole day/night.

Really miss those days.

Term 1: Management Accounting

The first subject for the first semester.

Management Accounting is an integral part of management concerned with identifying, presenting and interpreting information. It largely concerns the future, rather than the past. Due to it’s intended usage, it tends to be more organisation-and-situation-specific.

On the other hand, the purpose of management accounting is the provision of useful information to help management plan, control and make decisions.

Coffee Prince

Finally finish watching this Korean drama after a week of boringness at home/shop.

Like this drama very much! Funny and romantic in a way that make me feel like watching it for second time.

Synopsis

The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul's grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his "homosexuality"?

Double Impact

The death of my beloved father is sad enough for our family to accept and yet came another impact on Monday (20/7/09) for us when we reach the shop. It was break in. We don't know the exact time of the break in. It happened when I went upstairs to put some stuff, the room is already in a mess.

I was shock when I open the room door. At first I thought it was my imagination but after few seconds, it was not! I quickly tell my mum and report to the police. Most of the valuables were taken.

What a tragedy! Curse that damn bloody thief!

Luv U Always

Dad has leave us for twelve (12) days and forever it will be... Though he seem to have leave for a better place, I belief he still here protect and look after us from above.

I really miss him dearly... Here is a poem I would like to dedicate to you dad..

Daddy,

You are our hero in the family,
We will always remember you in our heart,
No matter where we are,
We will think of you.

We love you,
Forever and ever,
Our family hero.

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing,
Dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

The festival is celebrated in remembrance of Qu Yuan, a acholar in the kingdom of Chu during the Warring States period. When the Chu capital was taken over by their neighbour, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river. Afraid that the fish would devour his body, the people threw packets of rice into the river. Swine Flu Prevention

Swine Flu

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert on the outbreak of human swine influenza that has claimed 81 lives in Mexico. Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by Type A influenza virus. Although the swine flu does not usually affect humans, there had been cases of human infections with swine flu and human-to-human transmission has been reported. A number of confirmed human cases infected with the new strain of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus have been identified. Many countries around the world are responding to contain the spread of infection and are monitoring the situation closely.

Causes

Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. The spread of swine flu is believed to be the same way as how seasonal flu spreads. Most common transmission of person to person infection is through coughing or sneezing of persons with influenza. Swine flu infection is contagious. People with infection may be able to spread the flu virus a day before the symptoms appear and up to a week following the onset of illness.

Signs & symptoms

Just like the seasonal flu, swine flu infection in humans can vary in severity from mild to severe. Signs and symptoms of swine flu may include the following:

- High fever
- Cough
- Muscle pains
- Sore throat
- Fatigue or tiredness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting or diarrhoea

See your family doctor if you have any of the above symptons. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience the following warning signs:

- Breathing difficulty
- Confusion
- Persistent vomiting
- Sudden dizziness
- Complications

Swine flu infection can be serious and life threatening. Deaths from pneumonia and respiratory failure have been reported with severe swine flu infection.

Treatment

There are antiviral medications available to treat and/or prevent swine flu infection. Anti-viral medications such as oseltamivir or zanamivir fight against the influenza viruses from reproducing in the body. These medications, when taken early in the course of infection (within 2 days of the appearance of symptoms) may:

- reduce the severity of the infection with faster recovery from the illness
- prevent serious flu complications.

Prevention

One of the ways to protect against swine flu infection is to prevent its spread. Since the illness occurs through direct contact with infectious material and respiratory secretions, it is important to practise good personal hygiene. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

1. Cover Your Nose and Mouth
- With a tissue when you cough or sneeze and dispose the tissue properly in the trash after use.

2. Wash Your Hands
- Regularly and thoroughly with soap and water
- Before and after preparing food
- After going to the toilet
- Before and after eating
- After blowing your nose
- After using your hand when coughing or sneezing.

3. Contain the Spread of Flu
- Use a serving spoon when sharing food from a common dish
- Do not share personal items such as toothbrushes and towels
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- If you are sick, avoid crowded areas and wear mask
- Stay at home and do not go to work or school if ill
- See your family doctor if you have flu like symptoms and if you had recent travel to areas with cases of swine flu.

4. Build Up Your Immunity
- If you are a smoker, quit smoking. It harms you and your family
- Take more fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables are the most power-packed combination of nutrients your body needs for good health
- Drink the equivalent of 8 glasses of fluid daily
- Engage in 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on 5 or more days a week
- Learn to relax and rest.

5. Keep Your Environment Clean
- Do not throw leftover food on the floor or in the open
- Do not leave food in common areas for stray animals
- Do not spit on the floor and common areas
- Throw used masks, tissue or litter into rubbish bins.

Above are extracted from Health Promotion Board, for your information. For the benefit of yourself, family, friends and colleagues practice good hygiene habits. For more information, kindly visit : http://www.hpb.gov.sg/

Exercise

Few of my friends, either from high school or colleges has started asking me to join them for jogging or hiking.

Secretly in my mind I were thinking, "I'm a lazy bump and do I really need exercise? I went for a jog before but not hiking!"

Perhaps, I should join them to have a better healthy life instead of sitting in front of laptop and tv most of the time.

Guess its time for a change. A good one indeed.

Will think of it! In the meantime, I will do some light exercise at home. =)

Exhausted

I'm totally exhausted. And my panda eyes do also return. Not only that, my back bone is aching again this few days from work.

Have I tell you lately that I have become a M'sian housemaid for my house and shop? Apart from I can't cook a proper decent meal, I can sweep, mop, brush etc. So anyone want to hire me? ^_^

I really need to be like Po the panda from the Kungfu Panda movie where I need something to motivate me to do all the chores everyday till the Indonesian maid back from her kampung. ;p

Feeling droopy right now. Guess I will end here. Tata.

Joins Earth Hour 2009!

Dear All,

Earth Hour 2009 aims to reach more than one billion people in 1000 cities around the world, inviting communities, business and governments to switch off lights for one hour at 8:30pm on Saturday March 28 and sending a powerful global message that we care enough about climate change to take action. 62 countries including Malaysia have committed to participate in WWF’s Earth Hour in 2009. This will be the first time Malaysia officially takes part in Earth Hour.

The campaign, which hopes to reach out to more than one billion people in 1000 cities around the world, encourage individuals, businesses and governments to switch off lights for just one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30pm to convey their support for action on climate change. Cities already committed to Earth Hour include Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rome, Manila, Oslo, Cape Town, Warsaw, Lisbon, Singapore, Istanbul, Mexico City, Toronto, Dubai and Copenhagen.

2009 is a critical year in terms of the political decisions that will be made at global climate negotiations in December 2009. Earth Hour, aims to highlight the voice of the people of the world and represent a visual mandate for meaningful policy on climate change.

If you would like to pledge your support of Earth Hour, log on to http://www.wwf.org.my/how_you_can_help/take_action/earth_hour/ and sign up!

adventure

Plan

Go to Prangin Mall to fix my Nokia 6233

Adventure

The adventure starts the time i missed the morning bus due to heavy rain. While i was waiting patiently for the next bus heading towards town, there is this old uncle walking towards the bus stop and start talking or should i say questioning me asking whether the bus has arrived. I reply "no" instantly and he just sat next to me hearing my answer.

As i wait and wait for the bus, the uncle and i actually start talking to each other despite both of us are stranger. Well, there is no harm talking to an old uncle of 60 years old who live in the same neighbourhood. We actually have a nice conversation mainly on issues such as how the bus service should improve, the economic downturn affecting the graduates and the workings people, the inceasing and decreasing prices of stuff and so on.

The time did flies while we are talking as unbelievably we have actually talk for 45 minutes before the bus finally arrived. The conversation stop once we hop on the bus.

My journey continues for about half an hour before i reached Komtar bus stop. During the 30 minutes ride, there is actually something or certain people in the same bus caught my attention. There is this bunch of students all wearing society uniform carrying a tabung each when they onboard the bus. After a careful look at the uniform, i only realised that today is Flag Day for the Red Crescent.

Despite my realisation of the event, i did not donate as nobody seem like asking me for donation though i bump into several groups of Red Crescent members.

Back to the story, once i reached the main bus stop, the first thing that struck my mind is to ease my growling stomach. Note that i did not have breakfast apart from a cup of Milo. McDonald's is where i have my brunch - a set of McChicken burger, fries and Coke.

Sitting and eating alone at McDonalds let me see lots of different lifestyles the youngsters enjoy these day compared to mine time. I can see that the youngsters nowadays is very lucky as they can have their own handphone and latest gadgets to boast about with friends during their high school days. Not only that, the youngsters do have more freedom to hang out at the malls or cinemas. During my time, where got this stuff or things happen? Curfew and nagged is all we can get. So, how lucky are they?

Having fulfilling my stomach, the next thing to do is to repair my handphone. Due to faulty signal connection, my handphone need to be admitted for 3 days. Sigh.... Hundreds ringgit will need to be spend for the repairing.

Once mission is accomplished, dad's shop is where i be for the day. Work and dozing off there and then. Tiredness seems to have creep into my body and soul for the rest of the day.....

Discipline

I need to discipline myself back a bit. Instead of lazy-ing around at home or at shop, I need to do something useful. Something such as quickly do my assignments to show the lecturer the draft before submit it on 13th March!!

You all might think, "aiya... still got time to do mah..." but the fact that next week is the last class for the semester. i'm sure you all will now be as nervous as me to start get your fingers to type like a maniac! I don't have high hope that I can finish it all in few days time, but at least, complete 80% of the assignment to show the lecturer is good enough as all I need is to know whether I'm on the right track or not. The rest of the 20% can be done when I have the confirmation or a nod from the lecturer. Agree??

Alrite, need to start typing my assignments... Chao.....

oh deary me ! are we getting that old ???

Two elderly women were eating breakfast in a restaurant one morning. Ethel noticed something funny about Mabel's ear and she said, ''Mabel, do you know you've got a suppository in your left ear?' Mabel answered, 'I have a suppository in my ear?' She pulled it out and stared at it. Then she said, 'Ethel, I'm glad you saw this thing. Now I think I know where to find my hearing aid.'

*******************************

When the husband finally died his wife put the usual death notice in the paper, but added that he died of gonorrhea. No sooner were the papers delivered when a friend of the family phoned and complained bitterly, 'You know very well that he died of diarrhea, not gonorrhea.' Replied the widow, 'I nursed him night and day so of course I know he died of diarrhea, but I thought it would be better for posterity to remember him as a great lover rather than the big shit he always was.'

*******************************

An elderly couple were on a cruise and it was really stormy. They were standing on the back of the boat watching the storm, when a wave came up and washed the old man overboard. They searched for days and couldn't find him, so the captain sent the old woman back to shore with the promise that he would notify her as soon as they found something. Three weeks went by and finally the old woman got a fax from the boat. It read: 'Ma'am, sorry to inform you, we found your husband dead at the bottom of the ocean. We hauled him up to the deck and attached to his butt was an oyster and in it was a pearl worth $50,000. Please advise.' The old woman faxed back: 'Send me the pearl and re-bait the trap.'

*******************************

A funeral service is being held for a woman who has just passed away. At the end of the service, the pallbearers are carrying the casket out when they accidentally bump into a wall, jarring the casket. They hear a faint moan. They open the casket and find that the woman is actually alive! She lives for ten more years, and then dies. Once again, a ceremony is held, and at the end of it, the pallbearers are again carrying out the casket. As they carry the casket towards the door, the husband cries out, 'Watch that wall!'

*******************************

When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady sitting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said, 'I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee.'

I said, 'Well, then why are you crying?' She said, 'He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon. I said, 'Well, why are you crying?' She said, 'For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m.' I said, 'Well, why in the world would you be crying?' She said, 'I can't remember where I live!'

********************************

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.

One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, 'Now don't get mad at me....I know we've been friends for a long time.....but I just can't think of your name! I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is.' Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, 'How soon do you need to know?'

We had a very special bond.

Our time together is a gift;
You’re interesting and warm and fun!
And when I need to talk and share,
I think of you, friend; you’re the one.

We’re always true and real together.
We have no reason to pretend.
I’m thankful that you’re in my life,
My trusted, cherished Valentine friend.

Why Do We SHOUT?

One day, a professor asked his students 'Why do we SHOUT instead of speak when we are ANGRY?'

All the students thought for a while. One answered 'Because we lost our cool. That's why we SHOUT.'

Asked the professor again, 'But the person is just right next to you, why can't we talk softly but have to SHOUT?'

Everyone gave their opinions but none was accepted by the professor.

Lastly explained by the professor 'When we are ANGRY, our hearts drift apart. To mask the DISTANCE we felt, we instinctively SHOUT instead of speak so the other party can hear us.'

'But as we SHOUT, we get ANGRIER. And we felt we drift apart further. So we SHOUT even louder...'

'It is the opposite when we are in love. Not only we do not shout, we whisper into each other ears. Why?'

'This is because our hearts are very close, almost never apart. As our love deepen, we reach a state of communication where there is no need for words.'

'We understand each other well enough just by exchanging look,' concluded the professor.

'Therefore, when we are arguing, DO NOT speak words that will make our hearts drift apart. WAIT a few days. When you feel your hearts are no longer far apart, pick up the conversation and continue from there.'

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND!

What Love Does All The Time

The passages below are taken from the book, “Our Lady says: Love People” by Rev. Albert Joseph Mary Shamon.

“Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NJB)

Paul’s masterful description of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is divided into three parts.

In the first part, he describes what love is.
(1)It is patient.
(2)It is kind.

In the second part, he lists what love is not.
(1)It is not jealous.
(2)It is not pompous.
(3)Nor inflated.
(4)Nor rude.
(5)Nor self-seeking.
(6)Nor quick-tempered.
(7)It does not brood over injuries.
(8)Nor rejoice over wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth.

In the third part, Paul describes what is the permanent attitude of love, what it does all the time. The Greek word panta is translated as a noun “all things” and as the object of the verbs bears, believes, hopes and endures. I think panta is better translated as an adverb “continually,” “all the time.”

Love makes a hollow square. It conquers the enemies of love on all four sides, “all the time.” “There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure.”

1. “LOVE BEARS ALL THINGS.”

The Greek word (stegei) might be translated as “covers” instead of “bears.” In the presence of the faults of others, love puts her finger to her lips. When a hurtful particle lodges on the shell of an oyster, and it cannot eject it, the oyster covers the intruder with a precious substance extracted from its very life and turns the intruder into a beautiful pearl. A pearl is the crystallized tear of an oyster. Error hates truth; selfishness hates love; but love always puts a kind construction even on hate.

Why does love do this? Because we are called “to be conformed to the image” of the Son of God (Rom. 8:29), “Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His footsteps” (1 Peter 2:21). “He was spurned. . . a man of suffering. . . though he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not his mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter. . . he was silent” (Isaiah 53:3, 7). And when He did open His mouth, it was to excuse those who had crucified Him: “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do” (Luke. 23:34).

True love puts up with a lot from people, just as God does. It bears hurts in silence, conceals injuries as much as possible. True love tends to see good in everyone and feels that in the end good will triumph over evil. This trust springs from hope, a hope based on the promises of God. “Those who hope in the Lord shall never be put to shame.”

I think it was Rollo May who said that if we wish to change a person, we must accept him as he is and if we wish to change ourselves we must accept ourselves as we are. God does that, doesn’t He? So must we.

Therefore, St. James says, “Do not, my brothers, speak ill of one another” (James 4:11). James condemns fault finding. A censorious attitude means one is paying too much attention to the conduct of others. But worse, it can mean paying too much attention, not in order to help, but in order to criticize. This lumps one in with the devil, for it is written of him that he is “the accuser of our brothers” (Revelations 12:10).

2. “LOVE BELIEVES ALL THINGS.”

Love believes in people all the time. People are always asking us to believe in them, to trust them. “Trust me,” says the politician, the salesman, the promoter. Once I used to do my banking in a Trust Company. I did not know whether I was supposed to trust them or they were supposed to trust me. No matter, trust is vital not only to business, but also to life itself.

A house caught fire one night. The parents and children ran outside. A 5-year-old, however, eluded the parents and was trapped on the second story. The father saw the child in the window surrounded by smoke. He yelled, “Jump, I’ll catch you!” But the child cried out, “Daddy, I can’t see you.” The father answered, “That’s all right, I can see you. Jump!” So love trusts in people even though it cannot see the results. It believes in them, because it sees the over arching goodness of God who can bring good out of evil and that, despite appearances, His purpose will be accomplished.

Such belief in people brings out the best in them. Fr. Flannigan, the founder of Boystown, always said, “There is no such thing as a bad boy.” Don Bosco believed you could prevent a boy from becoming bad by loving him. Both of them worked wonders for the youth of America and Italy. When Gov. Al Smith was looking for a warden to bring order to Sing Sing Prison, he picked Lawes. When Lawes got the summons to the Governor’s office, Lawes said he was going to turn down the almost impossible task until Smith said to him, “Lawes, I picked you, because I believe in you. I know you are the man who can do the job.” Lawes said that that vote of confidence in him did the trick. He went to Sing Sing to become one of its finest wardens.

John Ruskin lamented: “If my parents would only love me less and trust me more.” Trust is believing in another.

3. “LOVE HOPES ALL THINGS.”

Love hopes even for the impossible for others, because the lover knows nothing is impossible for the Lord. Love hopes, therefore, first in the Lord. “They that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength like the eagle. . . shall run. . . shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). “Cursed is the man that trusteth man” (Jeremiah 18:5).

To Cromwell Cardinal Wolsley, when stripped of all office by Henry VIII, complained: “Had I but served my God with half the zeal I had served my king, he would not now in my old age have left me naked to my enemies.” Wolsley had forgotten the words of the Psalmist: “Put not your trust in princes” (Psalms 114:2).

Hope in the Lord begets hope for others. Love does not give up on people, or give in to evil no matter how great, just as Jesus never gave up on people. This demands constant and ardent prayer. We can do nothing without God; but with God, there is nothing we cannot do or hope for.

The family hopes and prays that the alcoholic or the drug addict will be cured; the wife beaten or the child abused hopes and prays that the most hardened sinner will eventually turn to the Lord. Like the Good Samaritan, love sees life and hope even in one half-dead. Love believes, in the words of Cervantes, “Where there is life, there is hope.”

4. “LOVE ENDURES ALL THINGS.”

The Greek verb Paul uses here for “endure” is huypomenein, which means not just to bear with people on occasion, once in a while, but to put up with people always, even to the very end of their lives, despite all their aberrations and vagaries. Just as a good mother never gives up on her wayward child, so love is steadfast, it holds on in moments and days and even years--confident that somehow, someway, in God’s good time all will be well in the end.

Thus when love has no evidence to the contrary, it bears with people; believes the best about them; hopes for the best for them; and courageously endures, waits--never gives up on them. Come what may, love is undismayed; love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things--all the time!

*********************

Love, as Paul has portrayed it in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, has been exemplified, realized, and incarnated in the life of Jesus.

In Jesus, love walked the earth. For in Him patience and kindness met. Never was He jealous, pompous, inflated, rude. Never did He seek His own interests. Never was He quick-tempered, nor one to brood over injuries. He rejoiced not over wrongdoing, but with the truth. He bore every sling and arrow aimed at Himself. He believed in people always, hoped for them continually and endured all their shortcomings, confident that to those who love God all things would work together unto good in the end.

His invitation still stands; “Come, follow me. Walk in love!”

Darkness

Chinese New Year is coming and my life today is in total darkness. All of this is due to TNB act of repairing the cable. Wild guess is cutting the cost of electricity. 7 hours and 15 minutes all together! How to survive?

No notice is given out to inform us about the electric-less and when made a complain, the operater just casually answered that they can't help in this matter. Crazy!

Guess that we (the people living in that area) have to bear in total darkness with no air and entertainment till the electricity is back! Really stupid!
